Chapter 1: Lavender Laser

Just like any other day, Jay sat in his apartment and relaxed on his bed. He sat there watching the news as Sofia slept soundly next to him. He looked out of his window, gazing at the unusually colored sky. As he shifted his gaze back at the TV, the room began to glow purple. Sofia woke up to look out the window and saw a distant purple beam of light that seemed to stretch into space. The light continued to shine bright as a shockwave reached the city minutes later. The whole world was terrified as they laid their eyes on the beacon that emanated from what seemed like nowhere. At the center of it all, 30-year-old Markus Darwin stood in the airport terminal staring at the beam in pure fear. "Oh no."

Instinctually, Patricia grabbed Markus and began to dash. "Tom, Taylor, get out of here! It's not safe!"

"What's going on?!" yelled Tom.

"I'm not sure, just get to shelter!"

Patricia ran out of the airport dragging Markus along. Tom and Taylor were stuck in the middle of the crowded airport with people panicking and trying to leave the airport. The two of them squeezed through the masses into the bathrooms and caught their breath. Tom pulled out his phone and began typing a set of coordinates into it. As they were trying to make an escape plan, the building began to rumble and crumble around them. They hid in the stalls until the shaking ended a few minutes later. Once the ground had stopped moving, they came out of the stall to see the airport silent and empty.

Taylor's phone began ringing, breaking the silence. She picked up and heard a familiar voice on the other end: "Hello? Is this Taylee?"

"Oh my God."

"Who is it?" Tom asked.

Taylor put the phone on speaker. "Hello?" he said into the phone. "Hi Uncle Tommy!!"

Tom and Taylor looked at each other in amazement. Throughout all the trouble, Tyrone and Jaiden had made it through the meteor strike.

"How did you guys make it?" Taylor asked

"Nearly all of us did! We got under the highway and amazingly, it didn't collapse!"

Taylor looked back up to Tom. They both got up and ran out of the airport.

"Where are you guys now?"

"We're still in Fazia. Wimbleton, specifically."

"Awesome. Stay there, we're on our way!"

As they came out of the airport, they found the parking lot completely abandoned, with damaged cars from the earthquake. The laser in the distance continued to shine straight into the atmosphere, until it released a burst of energy. Some of the nearby windows shattered as the shockwave reached them. Nearby lights also turned on for a few seconds as the energy powered them on. Taylor and Tom ran to a nearby car and broke in.

"Okay, question," Tom said.

"What is it?" responded Taylor.

"Do you know how to hotwire a car?"

"The hell- no! The keys are right here!"

She slammed the keys into the car and sped out of the lot as fast as she could. The car quickly sped by the sign indicating the city limits of Anerith, with not a single car in sight. At that moment, a bolt of energy fired straight out of the beacon and slammed into the car. Tom saw nothing but purple for a few seconds until he felt the car stop. As he regained his vision, he looked to his left and noticed that Taylor had run out of the car. He hopped out and called out to her, to no avail. "No service," he said as he pulled out his phone. He stared into the nearby forest, steeling himself to venture in and find her. As he stepped in, he ran back to the car. "No no no no no, not today! Nope! I'm not doing thaaaaat-!" He said while coiled up in the back seat.

He stayed in the car for another minute until he came out again. He took a hard stare into the dark purple maze of trees. He pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight, and then proceeded to enter the forest. The forest seemed to never end as he ventured further and further in, hoping he wouldn't lose the car. That's when he found Taylor, slumped over a stump, reciting something in a foreign language. Tom slowly approached her, pointing the flashlight at her. Now standing next to her, he bent over to look at Taylor. Her eyes were a bright neon purple with no pupils. Tom was taken aback, realizing that the strike had done something to her.

That's when he had an idea. He opened up a translator app and held it up to Taylor. The app began to convert her speech into text, displaying "προαγγελος του τελους του χωροχρονικου συνεχους" on the screen. Tom tapped on the translate button and stared at it. The translator had said: "harbinger of the end of the space-time continuum".

Tom looked back up at Taylor to find her eyes had returned to their natural yellow color. He put his hand on her shoulder and said to her: "Taylor? Are you okay?"

She looked back at him.

"That's its name."

"What?"

"That bolt of energy gave me a revelation. Its name is P3ToKKS."
